Candle Care

TIPS:

Candles and Favors are proud to use only the finest quality ingredients and materials in the manufacturing of our candles so that you will have the maximum enjoyment and pleasure as you burn them. It's important, however, that you use candles responsibly to ensure their safe use. Please follow the guidelines to keep your candles a bright and beautiful part of your life.

JARS AND TINS

Handle with care; glass containers are fragile. Avoid glass-to-glass contact when removing or replacing the lid. Do not use if the jar is cracked, chipped or scratched. Do not refill with wax. Do not allow the flame to touch the side of the jar. The jar may become hot. Handle carefully. To minimize wax left on the sides of the jar, burn 3 hours at a time; it is normal for some wax to be left. The amount will vary per color, fragrance and burning conditions. Prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface by discontinuing use when 1/2" of wax remains. Extinguish carefully before replacing the lid.

PILLARS

When wax pool reaches the candle's edge, extinguish flame and allow candle to harden before relighting. This will prevent dripping.

VOTIVES

Votives should always be used in an appropriate holder. Place on a safe, heat-resistant, dry surface. Keep the wick trimmed to 1/4" at all times. Sometimes a layer of liquid wax may form that allows the wick to fall to the side. To maintain an even burn, center it with a pencil. This will also protect your holder, since a flame that's too close for too long may crack the holder.

Keep the wax pool free of foreign objects such as wick trimmings and matches. They will interfere with proper burning and could cause a fire condition!

FAQ:

Q: Do we use lead wicks?
A: There has been a good deal of recent coverage in the media regarding possible health issues relating to candles containing lead wicks, some of which has unfortunately been confusing or misleading. In order to eliminate any concern or confusion on the part of our customers, Candles and Favors would like to assure you that we do not use lead wicks in any of our candle products.

Q: How can I keep my candles looking their best?
A: Candles will discolor or fade when they are exposed to intense light for extended periods. We do not recommend displaying your candles for long periods in direct sunlight, fluorescent lighting or other strong illumination. Wax will soften in temperatures over 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Store your candles in a cool, dry place.

Q: Which is your most fragrant candle?
A: All of our candles contain the highest percentage of fragrance oil.

Q: Why does my candle jar sometimes turn black at the top?
A. The black you see is carbon. An excessively large flame will produce carbon due to lack of sufficient oxygen from the air in the jar to provide complete combustion. The updraft of hot gases from combustion hinders diffusion of air into the jar and that starves the flame of oxygen. The key for that perfect burning candle is wick maintenance. The wick must be trimmed to no more than 1/4" throughout the candles life. The candle can be burned for several hours without trimming. It is suggested that upon each candle lighting the wick be trimmed to our specifications.

Q: Will putting candles in the refrigerator make them burn longer?
A. Yes. Refrigerating candles before use will help them burn more slowly and evenly. Candles should be wrapped in foil or plastic before refrigeration to prevent the wicks from absorbing moisture.

Q: Will my candle lose its fragrance if the jar is left uncovered?
A. No. This is a common misunderstanding. Remember, a candle is a solid not a liquid. Most liquids will lose their fragrance if left uncovered. Examples of this would include perfumes and colognes. At Candles and Favors, we thoroughly mix our fragrances within the wax and continue to agitate throughout the filling process. This assures that the fragrance is captured within the very structure of the candle and releases the powerful fragrance upon wax liquefying through melting.
